Patented Ultrasound Technology For Dynamic Image Analysis

The HAVER CPA devices

The image shows an agglomerate that has not been disintegrated by the HAVER Dispersion System

The image depicts how the HAVER Dispersion System disintegrated the agglomerate, and thus the particles can be counted with more accuracy and provide a precise measurement.

 In the Spotlight

HAVER & BOECKER is a traditional family-managed, midsize company with headquarters in Oelde, Westphalia, Germany. Under the umbrella of HAVER & BOECKER OHG, one finds the Wire Weaving and Machinery Divisions. Together with over 50 subsidiary companies on all five continents, they make up the HAVER Group, which has more than 2,898 employees and 150 representatives. In 2014, the HAVER Group posted a sales turnover of 428 million euros. The Wire Weaving Division produces woven wire cloth and processes it into engineered woven wire products. These are used for screening and filtration by the chemical, plastics, automotive, aviation, aerospace, electronics, foodstuffs and feed industries, as well as for architectural applications and analysis sieves. The Machinery Division specialises in packing and weighing technology. It develops, produces and markets systems and plants for filling and processing loose, bulk materials of every type. The product range includes packing and loading systems for powder-type and granulated materials, packing machines for filling food and animal feed, as well as filling stations and complete filling lines for liquid and pasty products. The product range is supplemented by screening machines, machines for washing, pelletizing plates, agitators, mixers, palletizing and loading systems, silos, ship loading and unloading equipment.

Based on state-of-the-art ultrasound technology, the HAVER Dispersion System is for the uniform conveying of ultra-fine material and the disintegration of agglomerates before the CPA analysis.

From stone-earth products to pharmaceutical goods, and to sugar in the food industry, particle size distribution is an important parameter. This distribution, and the values derived from it, is the quality feature for defining various products. For example, with sugar, the solubility is connected directly to the specific surface with respect to particle size. And as with many stone-earth products, on the other hand, the possible packing density is an important derived criterion.
The now-patented ultrasound application was developed from the area of traditional sieve analysis at HAVER & BOECKER. Here ultrasound assistance for screens has been successfully used for an increasing number of applications. This option is not only for analysis sieves, but production screens can also be outfitted under certain conditions.
Now in a modified form as a patented option, ultrasound is used for HAVER CPA devices. The ultrasound generator is mounted via a special channel design. The design changes, which are hardly visible from outside, were optimised to transfer the ultrasound energy over to the material without hindering the material conveying. On the contrary, with many difficult-to-convey materials, an improvement in the conveying characteristics has been achieved. The primary aim of ultrasound, however, is an improved singling and disintegration of agglomerated clumps. Especially with fine material samples, this becomes clear and serves to expand the range of application for the HAVER CPA units. In the past, the often-occurring oversized or too long particles resulting from agglomeration of fine materials is now reduced to a minimum.
The HAVER Dispersion System, invented by Haver & Boecker employee Sven Vennewald, promotes the uniform conveying of ultrafine materials that are prone to agglomerating and thus keeps them from forming into agglomerates. This ultrasound technology is recommended in combination with the HAVER CPA 2-1 and the HAVER CPA 2-1 HR where fine or abrasive bulk goods are encountered. The technology is suitable for use in laboratories and in applications on production lines.
