The 14th International Conference on Shot Peening (ICSP14): welcome to Milan!

Mario Guagliano

During the last International Conference on Shot Peening (ICSP13) held in Montreal and chaired by Professor Martin Lévesque, the International Scientific Committee voted for hosting the next ICSP14 (September 14th – 17th, 2020) at Politecnico di Milano, Milan (Italy). I am happy to announce this news and honored to chair this conference.
As you know, ICSP is a series of conferences initiated in 1981 and since then has taken place every three years, promoting research and dissemination of knowledge in the area of shot peening and allied processes. In 2020, for the first time, it will be hosted in Italy at Politecnico di Milano, the largest technical university in Italy with a solid international reputation. Ranked among the first ten technical universities in Europe, today, Politecnico di Milano can be considered an international university with strong Italian cultural roots, with about 40,000 students (25% of whom are international students).
The conference will be hosted in the buildings of the new campus (Campus Bovisa), the ideal location to discuss the latest developments in the area of shot peening: with four plenary lectures already announced with a focus on advanced applications such as additive manufacturing and severe plastic deformation for ultra fine grained surfaces, parallel sessions with more than 150 presentations, technical and cultural visits and many exhibitors are expected. I am sure it will be a top event in the field, able to foster research, disseminate knowledge and the latest scientific results, while promoting networking contacts and business.
Last but not least, Milan offers many attractions and places to visit. Even if it may be not so well known as Rome or Venice from a touristic point of view, Milan is a very dynamic international city and is the most important financial and industrial city in Italy. Sited in the north of Italy, it is very well known for fashion, design and good food, and is rich in many historical monuments and ancient and modern buildings, being able to attract more and more visitors every year that remain fascinated and love to dine or have an aperitif outdoors along the channel “Naviglio” or in the pedestrian gallery in front of the Cathedral (the “Duomo”).
We have already started working on the conference organization and will do our best to satisfy your highest expectations of this great conference. We will keep you posted about the developments, the website and the important deadlines.
2020 might seem far away, but time is flying. So, save the date.
I am looking forward to welcoming you at ICSP14!
