In the Spotlight

3M is a science-based company with a culture of creative collaboration that inspires powerful technologies, making life better. With $32 billion in sales, 3M employs 90,000 people worldwide and has operations in more than 70 countries. For more information, visit www.3M.com or follow us on Twitter and Facebook. 3M is a registered trademark of 3M Company.

Better performance, longer lifecycles, less wear: those are the challenges that experts in the field of metal processing are continually faced with. 3M Technical Ceramics (formerly ESK Ceramics) is one of the leading suppliers of high-performance technical ceramics and boron carbide blast nozzles.

Following the merger of ESK Ceramics GmbH & Co KG with 3M, the diversified technology company, in the spring of 2015, the ceramics specialist from Kempten, Germany, has continued to offer its entire range of products under a new name. Of course, they still provide the same proven standards of quality and performance - despite the fact that product names were changed during rebranding.

Consolidating strengths

By joining the strengths of a specialist manufacturer with those offered by a worldwide-diversified technology company, new opportunities have arisen for joint research and development, as well as for linking technologies in innovative new ways.

Comprehensive solutions for metal processing

In the field of metal processing, 3M now offers comprehensive solutions from a single source: As one of the world's leading producers of boron carbide, 3M Technical Ceramics manufactures blast nozzles for the most demanding applications. This has been a perfect addition to 3M's highly diversified range of products in the field of metal processing. Intelligent abrasive systems manufactured by 3M help reduce costs and increase productivity for specialized companies.

Ideal for use with extremely hard blast media

3M blast nozzles made of boron carbide, are identical to the TETRABOR blast nozzles produced by ESK prior to the merger. Boron carbide is one of the hardest technical materials. Blast nozzles made with boron carbide guarantee the least wear and longest lifecycles when properly used. Thanks to their extremely high abrasion resistance, they are ideal for applications using abrasives and very hard blast media, such as aluminum oxide or silicon carbide.

3M Technical Ceramics in Kempten

ESK Ceramics GmbH & Co KG was founded in 1922 in Kempten, Bavaria and is considered one of the leading suppliers of high-performance ceramics. In 2004, the company became part of Ceradyne Inc., which was acquired by 3M in 2012. Since the transfer of operations from ESK Ceramics to 3M Technical Ceramics, Kempten has become one of altogether 18 locations for 3M Germany.
