It is my great pleasure to announce the first International Conference on Advanced Surface Enhancement (INCASE) that will be held in Singapore from September 10th to 12th, 2019. The conference is being organized by the Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC), and it is my honor to have been asked to chair this exciting new event.

ARTC is the first center in Asia within the network of Advanced Technology Research Centres known collectively as AxRCs that are aimed at providing world-class framework for the advancement of technology innovation. With a world class infrastructure and strong collaboration with both industry and academia, ARTC is uniquely positioned to develop and implement new technologies by swiftly bridging the gap between labs and production shop floors. Partner members of ARTC come from a wide range of industries, who work closely with ARTC to co-develop fit-for-purpose technologies, reducing the time-to-market.

The conference will be hosted in the ARTC premises at CleanTech Park, a picturesque location at the west end of Singapore. There are five broad discussion themes that encompass the latest developments in specific areas of surface enhancement, including advances in measurement techniques, surface finishing, and conventional as well as novel processing methods for fatigue enhancement. As manufacturing rapidly moves towards higher automation and Industrie 4.0, another key focus of INCASE2019 will be on evaluating whether the surface enhancement community is adequately prepared for this transformation. With active participation of industry and academia, and several keynote lectures from renowned experts in the field already planned, I am sure that INCASE2019 will bring forth innovative ideas to address the challenges that industry faces today, and inspire future inventions.

Although 2019 may seem to lie somewhat far ahead, our team has already started working on the conference organization, and we shall do our best to make it a success. I encourage you to make a note in your diary to attend this event in Singapore, a vibrant global city with many attractions and places to visit.

I look forward to welcoming you at INCASE2019 in Singapore!
