Looking at all the different FAA accepted shot peening courses which were offered from the 24th-26th of October 2005, 83 people visited this event. For Asia, this is the highest number of participants MFN has ever had. Since many registrations came at short notice, additional tables and chairs had to be moved in to handle the amount of people. The ballroom facility at the Hilton on Orchard road reached its full capacity.

A total of 9 trainers from as many countries conducted the training of the 3 shot peening courses. Having so many trainers ensures that each topic is lectured by a specialist in this field. The trainers were also responsible for observing the optional exams. Passing such an exam, the participant received a “Certificate of Achievement” which includes the FAA course identification number. Around 85% of all participants took this optional exam.

For the guest speaker day, MFN invited interesting personalities from the industry. MFN had the honour of welcoming key note speaker Kim L. Wolfley, an International Representative of the American Embassy of Singapore. Mr. Wolfley started the guest speaker day and spoke about audits in the aviation industry. This is a topic which is of great interest to many parties involved in shot peening.

Besides the presentations and courses, the participants had access to a trade show with 13 booths. The following companies were been represented at the trade show:

-Aerosphere, -Baiker AG, -Engineered Abrasive
-Frohn GmbH, -MFN, -Progressive, -Peening Accessories GmbH, -Pometon S.p.A., -Roto Finishers, -Saint Gobain, -Stresstech, -Wheelabrator Group

All workshop participants were invited to join a boat tour including dinner for an evening. MFN would like to express its special thanks to the sponsors of this boat tour which are Abrasive Engineering from Singapore and Frohn GmbH in Germany.

The next event of this nature will be held in Clearwater Florida next May. For more information see www.mfn.li/workshops.
