Spinner Hanger Shot Blast machine for big and heavy castings with optimum wear protection TechnoGuss Tangerhütte GmbH reacts to continuously rising requirements for increased productivity and flexibility of the manufacturing process by investing in state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies. Of course, this included also installation of a spinner hanger shot blast machine from Rösler. This blast system is characterized by its heavy-duty design, its flexible material handling capabilities and its optimum blast media classification and cleaning system.

TechnoGuss Tangerhütte manufactures over 5,000 different components weighing between 50 and 10,000 kg. The raw parts are ductile steel castings which may consist of low and high alloy steel. The finished parts are utilized in ship engines, transmissions, pumps and in general heavy-duty machinery. In 2007 the company invested in new equipment in its fettling shop with the continuous spinner hanger blast machine RHBD 45/50-T from Rösler being a key component. Mr. Jamshid Yektai, general manager of TechnoGuss comments: "Without a high-performance shot blast system there is no way to manufacture high value castings in a competitive manner. Rösler did not offer the lowest price, but a very high performance/productivity in relation to the price, and we always received good technical advice and service."

Designed for extreme loads

The new continuous spinner   blast machine has a working dimension (envelope) of 6 x 6 x 5 m (W x L x H). It is designed for the heavy-duty operating requirements prevailing in a foundry. The machine housing is made from wear resistant manganese steel. In addition the critical wear areas are lined with replaceable manganese steel plates. Seven high performance Hurricane blast wheels, type H 42, with 22 kW power each guarantee optimum blast intensity and coverage for all-round blast cleaning of the castings. To achieve an optimum blast pattern, the Rösler engineers determined the blast wheel arrangement by utilizing a 3D simulation of the blast process. The raw parts are transported to the shot blast machine with the bridge crane of the fettling department. Maximum batch weight is 20,000 kg. The parts are travel through the blast zone in 3 fixed positions. In each position the parts undergo a rotational movement. This ensures that all areas of the part – irrespective of how complicated its geometry might be -- are reached by the blast stream, be it for desanding or the subsequent general blast cleaning.

High efficiency cleaning of the blast media

An important factor in the customer’s decision for Rösler was the highly efficient system for cleaning the blast media, i.e. removing sand and dust from the media. Before being transported to the airwash separator the blast media is already „pre-cleaned“ by an innovative double acting magnetic separator. This system cleans so effectively that the residual sand load in the blast media is not higher than 0.3%.

As an all-round supplier, Rösler GmbH is an international market leader in the production of surface finishing, shot blasting machines, painting systems and preservation lines  as well as process technology for the rational surface finishing (deburring, descaling, sand removal, polishing, grinding…) of metals and other components. Besides the German plants in Untermerzbach and Bad Staffelstein, the Rösler Group has branches in Great Britain, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, China, Brazil, South Africa and USA.
