INCASE 2023: Revolutionising Surface Engineering for Sustainability

As the organising committee of the International Conference on Advanced Surface Enhancement (INCASE) 2023, we are thrilled to share the resounding success of this event, held from 26th to 28th September at the Holiday Inn Singapore Atrium. This event has proven to be the cornerstone in bridging the gap between surface engineering research and industry. Since its inception in 2019, INCASE has evolved into a forum connecting academic and industry in tackling shared challenges. This year's theme, "Surface Engineering for Sustainability," emphasised our commitment to eco-friendly practices.

The conference commenced with a warm welcome from Dr Jonathan Low (ARTC), and was inaugurated by the Chairperson, Professor Upadrasta Ramamurty (NTU, Singapore). Distinguished guest-of-honour Professor Ric Parker (A*STAR, Singapore) and renowned keynote speakers such as Dr Thomas Haubold (Rolls-Royce), Professor Christopher Schuh (Northwestern University, US), Dr Arpana Verma (Halliburton), Professor Christopher Berndt (SEAM, Australia), and Dr Felipe Cerdas (Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany), set a powerful tone. INCASE 2023 drew 160+ participants from across the globe, featuring 29 invited speakers and 100+ presentations, symbolising its global reach. We are grateful for the support of 6 sponsors, including Abrasive Engineering and Halliburton, and 18 industry exhibitors.

A highlight of the event was the panel discussion, "Sustainability & Future Trends in Surface Engineering," led by Professor David Butler (University of Birmingham, UK). Insights from panellists enriched our understanding of pressing issues. The conference concluded with an insightful tour of research facilities at SIMTech and ARTC, showcasing real-world applications of innovations discussed during the conference.

INCASE continues to be a catalyst for innovations and collaborations in surface engineering. We thank our participants, sponsors, and partners in making this event a great success. Together, we will continue our journey to drive the industry towards sustainable solutions and a net-zero future. We look forward to the next INCASE conference in 2026 organised by Coventry University, UK, where we will continue our role as a co-organiser.
