Over the past four decades, growing awareness of the risks and hazards in industrial environments, has led to the development of many global policies and regulations to actively promote and maintain the physical, mental and social wellbeing of workers. In this context, the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) was enacted in 1970 in the USA, to enforce standards for employers to undertake an ethical and responsible objective to develop good work practices and to upkeep a safe and healthy work environment. Its mission is to advocate employers to comply with set guidelines and provide employees with an environment free from recognized work hazards such as, but not limited to, exposure to toxic chemicals, excessive noise levels, mechanical dangers, temperature stress, or unsanitary conditions.

Government Organizations in numerous nations across the world have increasingly recognized the need to control and improve health and safety performance, leading to the extensive proliferation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMS). By 2009, over 50,000 certificates had been issued in more than 100 countries to OHSAS or OHSMS equivalent standards.

Within the OSHA framework, the regulations for the use of PPE (personal protective equipment) were introduced to reduce the employees’ exposure to hazards, when engineering or administrative controls are neither viable nor effective in reducing risks to acceptable levels.

A Constant Advocate

As an established market leader in the field of blast cleaning and surface preparation solutions, Pan Abrasives with its vast experience in navigating complex issues, is well qualified to meet the comprehensive demands, and changing needs of today’s industrial environment.

Being a global supplier with a world-wide distribution network, Pan Abrasives understands national and regional PPE standards critical to operations in many climatically varied areas of the world, to innovate, and to reliably deliver appropriate solutions when and where required.

PanBlast™ Cosmo Supplied Air Respirator Helmet

The new PanBlast™ Cosmo Supplied Air Respirator Helmet is approved to EN14594:2005 Class 4B Respiratory Protective devices under the CEN European PPE Directive 89/686/EEC. Within the approved supply package various options of alternate air flow control devices: Air Flow Controller, Air Cooling Controller and Climate Controller are available to provide maximum operator comfort.

The PanBlast™ Cosmo Supplied Air Respirator Helmet is designed to protect the blasting operator from rebounding abrasive, dust, debris and excessive noise levels generated from the abrasive blasting process. Incorporating a front flow air dispersion system to maximize operator comfort; it is coupled with an airflow indicator with high visibility red/green operation, which provides for operator protection and gives the operator assurance of knowing that the breathing air supply to the SAR is adequate and within regulatory specifications.

Weighing a mere 3.2 kg (7 lbs), the PanBlast™ Cosmo Supplied Air Respirator Helmet System is supplied standard with the ultra-flexible and lightweight AcoustiFlex Breathing Tube, a unique and innovative sound deadening hose to the industry for its non-directional assembly feature and impossible-to-plug design.

For additional comfort and protection, the PanBlast™ Cosmo Supplied Air Respirator Helmet System is fitted with a Nylon Collar and Outer Cape which are detachable. To accommodate varying head sizes, the helmet piece is supplied with an adjustable suspension head harness for a secure fitting.

PanBlast™ Air Flow Control Devices

Complementary to the PanBlast™ Cosmo Supplied Air Respirator Helmet System is the range of alternate flow controllers from which the blasting operator can select a suitable unit to enable optimum comfort under varying ambient operating conditions. The PanBlast™ Air Flow Controller is a lightweight and economical airflow control unit, which is suitable for users that do not require cooling or heating of EN12021 quality breathing air being supplied to the Cosmo. Should cooling of the breathing air be required, the PanBlast™ Air Cooling Controller can be used to reduce the incoming air temperature by up to 19°C (34°F). When both cooling and heating of the incoming air is required, the PanBlast™ Climate Controller can reduce the incoming air temperature by up to 15°C (27°F) from ambient, or increase the incoming air temperature by up to 30°C (54°F) from ambient, thus providing breathing air at a comfortable temperature to the operator.
All alternate flow control devices come complete with an adjustable nylon waist belt for unit attachment to the operator’s waist during use. These alternate flow control devices do not require batteries or electrical power to operate and only require the supply of EN12021 quality breathing air from the respirator airline filter for reliable operation.
