Machine tools of the company OTEC Präzisionsfinish GmbH are characterized by high process reliability, good automation and great flexibility combined with simple handling. Continuous development of the drag, stream and pulse-finishing systems makes it possible to provide customers with machine tools for selective post-processing and polishing of workpieces in various industries, like the medical technology, tool and mold-making or automotive industries.
In order to satisfy customer needs and increasing demands in production technology, the company OTEC developed a new stream-finishing machine tool with integrated optical measurement device. In addition to post-processing, it enables automated and consistent quality control of shank tools and other workpieces. SF with integrated measurement device was developed in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology IPK in Berlin during the course of a two-year project. Founded by the Central Innovation Program for SME (ZIM) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), a compressed stream-finishing machine tool was designed, built and enhanced with a measuring cell comprising a 6-axis articulated robot by Fanuc Robotics Deutschland GmbH, Neuhausen, and an optical measuring device IF SensorR25 by Alicona Imaging GmbH, Grambach, Austria.
After machining the workpiece in the SF, the articulated robot automatically changes the workpiece. While the next workpiece is being machined, the initial workpiece is cleaned and afterwards measured by the optical sensor. The measurements allow the reproducible detection of specific values important for cutting tools, like the cutting edge radius r?, the K-Factor K and the maximum chipping of the cutting edge Rs,max. Furthermore, the specific values are stored in databases and can be displayed and retrieved via an additional monitor. The integrated measurement device replaces external, mostly manually performed measurement. The time for tool transport and the positioning of workpieces can be drastically reduced. The integrated measurement technology also allows an automated parametrization of the machine, whereby the correct setting parameters for new workpieces can be quickly and efficiently determined.
The developed prototype machine tool was presented for the first time on EMO Milano in October 2015.
In addition, OTEC presents another world's first of its Pulsfinish machine SF-3. Not only is this machine equipped with the innovative pulse finishing process, but as well with an automatic holders' changer.
The principle of the newly developed pulse finishing system is based on the precisely defined and rapidly repeating relative movement between media and workpiece. Here the clamped workpiece is immersed in the media stream of the rotating drum where it is quickly accelerated to a speed of over 2,000rpm. Then it is decelerated again and accelerated once more. The differing speeds resulting from the inertia of the media in the drum and the rapid change of workpiece speed give rise to an extremely intense and precisely controllable abrasive effect. During this process, relative velocities of up to 40G are attained!
The new Pulsfinish machine SF-3 is supplementary equipped with an HSK-63 interface which changes the holders automatically. Its magazine is for up to 18 holders. Work pieces can be fixed on outside and inside diameter.
Both machines can be seen on the upcoming GrindTec 2016 in hall 1 booth 1005 - where OTEC will be presenting its innovations and effective solutions for deburring, grinding, smoothing and polishing guaranteeing a perfect surface finish of tools and products.
