Introduction of Walter Beach

Walter Beach has served as the Vice President of Peening Technologies since 1991. The company, with branches in Connecticut and Georgia (USA), provides specialized shot peening services, equipment manufacture, and surface enhancement solutions primarily for the aerospace sector and other high-performance applications. Born into a family with deep roots in the industry, Walter is the son of Walter Alden Beach Sr. (1924–2014), who founded Hydro-Honing Laboratories in East Hartford, Connecticut in 1966. This company evolved into Peening Technologies, which initially focused on shot peening as a job shop service before expanding into designing and manufacturing sophisticated automated shot peening equipment. Today the company is a respected provider of both job shop peening services (using CNC and robotic systems) and turnkey equipment solutions. Walter has over 34 years of hands-on experience in shot peening. His early background includes technical training at Porter & Chester Institute (1987–1990) and the Hartford Modern School of Welding (1985–1987). He holds an FAA Repairman certification (2010), underscoring his qualifications in aviation-related processes. As Peening Technologies’ Director of Quality Assurance, he helped lead the company to become the first Nadcap accredited shot peening facility in (2001). As an innovator and inventor, Walter holds a U.S. patent (US 9,063,049 B2, issued June 23, 2015) for an apparatus and method for quantifying metal surface treatment, reflecting his continuing contributions to process measurement and control in surface enhancement. Throughout his career, Walter has established himself as a shot peening expert and industry leader. He has been actively involved with SAE International since the early 2000s, contributing to the development of Nadcap checklists (e.g., AC7117 series) and later joining the SAE Surface Enhancement Committee and the Aerospace Surface Enhancement Committee (ASEC). In 2025, he was appointed Chairperson of both committees, succeeding Jack Champaigne of Electronics, Inc. In this leadership role, he has sponsored revisions to key industry standards, including AMS2430, AMS2432, and ARP7488, aimed at advancing shot peening practices and quality assurance. Walter also serves on the Board of Directors of the Aerospace Component Manufacturers (ACM), a local organization serving the interests of Aerospace corporations operating in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. Walter continues to emphasize collaboration, continual improvement of shot peening processes, and technical innovation in his professional endeavors. He is based in the East Hartford, Connecticut area, where the company’s headquarters are located.
